Is your weight genetic?

Scientists have found two genes in mice that influence weight gain. One of these makes leptin, a hormone involved in appetite control. Low levels of leptin or a resistance to its effects are associated with obesity. The other gene makes a protein that helps the body burn off food as heat, rather than storing it as fat. Very rarely, variants of these genes may cause obesity in humans. However weight gain is complex and a result of many different factors.
